Made during my last years in Italy, this painting portrays some of the dominant discriminatory views on the African male in Italy, being both a loser and an object for sexual desire..., but it's also a comment on the existing hypocrisy and lack of understanding for the situation of these people. The women's physiognomy is intendedly distorted to ridicule this idea. I had a personal encounter with this person, who lost both his parents when he was very young. He came to Italy without documents, and is living in a park, addicted to alcohol and crack.
The woman on the right is mentally numb, afraid to let go of her desires, playing with fire, scared to be judged and condemned by the patriarchal society. The hanging 'fruits' are made from outlining a beater.
